Ultracold atoms in optical lattices are pristine model systems with a tunability and flexibility that goes beyond solid-state analogies, e.g., dynamical lattice-geometry changes allow tuning graphene lattice into boron-nitride lattice. However, fast modulation of the geometry remains intrinsically difficult.
